Nepal, officially ‘The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal’, is a landlocked country located in South Asia. It lies in the Himalayas, bordering People’s Republic of China to its North and The Republic of India to its South, East and West. With an area of 147,181 sq. km. , Nepal is the world’s 93rd largest country by land mass.

Nepal has a population of approximately 30 million, with life expectancy of 60.94 years at birth.  Kathmandu is nation’s capital which has estimated 6 million population in itself. Nepal has a rich geography. The mountainous North has eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including the highest peak on earth, Mount Everest (8,848 m). The fertile and humid south is heavily urbanized. The economy is largely based on agriculture and nearly one third population in Nepal live below poverty line.

Politically, Nepal was a monarchy ruled throughout its history. However, 10 years of Civil war by Maoist and several weeks of mass protest by all major political parties led to abolish of monarchy in May 2008 and Nepal was established as A Federal Democratic Republic with multi-party representatives.

Hinduism is predominant religion in Nepal, however Buddhism is also practiced largely and is liked with history of Nepal. There are some animistic and other religion practiced as well. About 2% of the whole population are Christians. Nepal’s Churches are reported as one of the fastest growing in the world. In the past, Nepal Christians faced much persecution, but in recent years Nepal has declared religious freedom.
